So a busy week at work means hardly any research for the past week.
But on Thursday, I purchased the Eve Online game at a Walmart.
And Saturday I signed up. After getting the house ready for a bridal shower my wife is throwing.
So I get some goodies.
A PDF from the website - So everyone gets it.
A joke of manual
A special edition ship, which I hear is a shuttle.
A VIP Pass which is the same as the buddy program for everyone else
60 day pass.
So essentially a DVD and 60 days for $39.99. Vs paying 2 months at $14.99 each.. hmm oh well done deal.
So I create an account and put in my 60 day card.
I then install the game.
I then launch the game.
I then spend the next 2 1/2 hours updating the game.
wheee.. just plain wheee....
1362 MB update? holy wow.
So been reading the PDF and it is purty. Has some good info on careers.
So right now just waiting for the update to finish.
Maybe I will take a nap.
So far my Eve Experience isn't the greatest. Wonder if I had downloaded originally if I would have to do the update... oh well.
Once I can play, I have to create a character. Back to the Character Creation page on the EVElopedia. http://wiki.eveonline.com/wiki/Character_Creation
Originally, I thought I would study more before playing. But hard to find time to study w/o the game to make it interesting. So ended up getting the game.
But alas, I am in wait mode.
24% done. 2hr 2 min left.
Nap time!

Day 8
So my first stop is this:
http://wiki.eveonline.com/wiki/About_EVE_Online - A very nice getting started guide to help me out.
I will not repeat what is there besides saying that everyone should read this. Spend time on it. I probably did not spend enough time.
So I have spent part of the evening reading this. Its good to read now but I expect most will not click until I actually play the game.
Good news is that the Tutorials should help out alot based on the information there. But this site is a must.
So after reviewing and clicking on a few of the links I have a better idea.. but will review again before starting a game.
My guess ETA on actually starting this thing is probably next Friday night.

Day 7
Ok, I already started to research before I decided to do this blog so a few days in to the prep. Not as much as I would like since I have been working on a project at work that has taken a lot of my time.
So essentially I have done the following:
So essentially I have done the following:
- Googled Eve-Online tutorials
- Subscribed to the Eve thread on www.quartertothree.com where I keep up with what is going on in the world of gaming.
- Read a little bit of the Eve Forums based on other posts.
The Beginning
Well I have decided I want to play Eve Online. A MMO Game. If you do not know what Eve Online is go to their site. www.eve-online.com.
But before I decide to join, I am going to research it. Because Eve is unlike almost every game out there in its size and scope. So I want to start understanding more than the brief basics.
And because I want to retain what I learn, I am also going to document it, because that will help me retain my knowledge. (and maybe help other newbs too)
So for those who are not familiar with Eve here are a few things.
I am a few weeks behind on my decision so going to backtrack some here.
I looked into signing up on Eve a few years ago. Really started to follow what was going on as I an a space nut. So about that time, it comes to light that a developer for CCP (people who make EVE ONLINE) was caught giving free stuff to people in his corporation. Stuff that could make them a bunch of money. Well CCP owned up on it and did not fire the cheater. Which blows. And then they Ban the dude who reported it because they caused CCP grief. I watched that for awhile and decided I would spend my money elsewhere because I cannot trust the people making the game then some day I would be screwed over.
So now a few years later, I start seeing some more Eve stuff crossing my event horizion. I think it might be interesting to see whats going on. So I start watching again. Eve released a new expansion which I cannot pronounce (Apocrypha) which has some nice changes and also makes the game more newb friendly.
So I think about signing up. I will probably be able to pay for it as I am making some financial changes that should provide me some more spending cash for whatever. Maybe $14.99 a month isn't thaaat bad.
I almost quit right here becuase just last week the whole Bob/KenZoku/BoBR name change fiasco happened and I had flashbacks to the good ole days of not trusting CCP. But they decided to go back and undo the BoBR change (althought the excuse seemed lame to me!). So I sat back for a week and thought it over. Eventually, I decided that I need my Elite/Sci Fi needs met and Eve is possibly the only way to scratch that itch.
So I have deiced to try it out. I have not signed up yet and have not researched much, but will document what I can to help me and others out. (unless I get lazy and quit this blog)
So wish me good luck!

So for those who are not familiar with Eve here are a few things.
- Eve is a single universe. No shards.
- Eve is Huge!
- Eve has a very large learning curve
- You can be learning new skills while not even logged in.
- At least one developer of the game has been caught cheating in Eve.
- Eve has its own economy
- Eve has its own slang/language for the parts of Eve.
- If you want it safe, Eve is not the place. Nope. People here will kill you because they can. Accept it.
- People will scam you of your money. Trust only yourself.
- Scandals on Wall Street? They have them here too.
